Math 235, Fall 2016

Course information:

  • Wednesday 7 September: Class meets both during the regular time period and again in the evening. Evening sessions are in Dubach Mac Lab. Half of the class meets in the lap from 7-8pm; half of the class meets in the lab 8-9pm.
  • Friday 23 September: Exam 1 takes place during the usual class time.
  • Tuesday 25 October, Wednesday 26 October: Exam 2. This is a two hour long exam. Students have the option of taking the exam either on Tuesday evening (starting at 7pm) or on Wednesday morning (starting at 8am)
  • Monday 28  Wednesday 30 November: Exam 3 takes place during the usual class time.
  • Wednesday 14 November December: Final exam takes place 8:30-11:30.

    typo: example 1.4.8 missing parentheses f(t,y)

    typo: Exercise 1.4.4 part 2 should read “Show that y(t) = 0 is a solution to the IVP.”

    typo: The differential equation in Example 2.2.3 should be
    $\displaystyle \frac{dy}{dt} = \cos(t) – 7y$

    Typo. eq 3.0.1 $\frac{dy_n}{dt}$ should be the last entry for the list, and the rhs equations should go from $f_1$ to $f_n$ as well.

    typo. pg 84 at the end, there’s a reference to example 3.2.1 but the text just has ?? instead of the reference.

    “Furthermore, as in the case of the example considered here, solutions
    may not “directly” approach an equiloibrium point, but may twist and turn
    in state space.” pg 89. equilibrium misspelled.

    Page 191 (chapter 6). Says code is accessible at a specific link with no link attached. Also code on page 170 has inconsistencies between variables (using x,y then y,v).
